FADE IN:
1 EXT. COSTA RICA - TROPICAL JUNGLE - DAY 1
The dense, lush rain forests of the beautiful tropical and exotic dark,
Jungles of Costa Rica, the place is known as "El Lobo"
Mysterious, vine like walls that are hidden by the
thick
tropical mists.
The MAIN TITLE is followed by this:
COSTA RICA
2002
A vast trail of vines across the dark green jungles of the forest.
Two men make their way along the treacherous path. At the head
of the path is an American, Henry Al John. He is wearing a light
beige short sleeve safari shirt, has a canteen, and a designer
baseball cap with a unique button pinned on the logo. Behind him
comes a stocky German called Hons Robin Hood. Bringing up the rear
are five German tourists. They act as camouflage and are wrangling
the very heavily packed backpacks. The Tourists become increasingly
nervous. They speak to each other in slang forms of German. The
American, who is known to his friends as John Henry, glances back at
them.
HONS
(irritated)
They're going very slow again!
He turns and yells at the Germans in poor grammar, his anger
giving an indication of his own impatience. The party reaches
a break in the vine walls and takes the trail through them.
When they emerge, their destination is revealed to them far
off in the distance. Beyond a thick stand of trees in the
vegetation is the enshrouded Beaches of Manual Antonio.
The entire party is struck by the awesome sight. The Germans
nervousness is, replaced by quick chatter. Suddenly
the three at
the back turn and run, dropping their packs as they go. Hons
yells at the fleeing tourists. It is only a crocodile.
He starts to raise his gun to shoot the croc, John restrains
him, with his muscular grip.
JOHN
No. That is bad luck.
Hons looks evilly at John's hand upon him. John
releases him and smiles in a friendly way.
JOHN
It will go away.
HONS
I do not like crocodiles.
JOHN
If we leave him alone, then he
will leave us alone.
He turns back to the trail. John gets the tourists to feel
safer moving them back away from the croc . Hons is quick
to move , with silent communication: Hons indicates his
desire to kill the beast; John gives him a look that
says "cool it".
2 EXT. THE APPROACH TO THE BEACH 2
The party fans out to fight their way through the en-
twined trees that guard the path. Visibility is cut to
five feet in the heavy mist. John extracts a long branch,
from a tree, just in case the croc comes back.
HONS
(showing John)
The Beach is near. (The sound of the
waves are easily heard)
JOHN
If they only knew how close that was.
That croc could have easily killed them.
The two tourists jabbering in German, near hysteria. Hons
is sweating profusely, from the encounter. He yells at
the Germans in German to "Be Quiet".
In the undergrowth, there is slithering movement.
Tourist #1 draws aside a branch and is faced with a horrified
silent scream. Out crawls an iguana. The Tourist
is so frightened no sound comes out when he screams. He
turns and runs silently away.
Tourist #2 calls to his friend. Getting no response, he
steps in that direction. A huge macaw, flushed from the
undergrowth, screams and flies away. Tourist #2 does
exactly the same thing.
John and Hons, just clearing the trees, look
back in that direction. They all turn to face the Beach.
It is beautiful and welcome. Waves crash from every
direction, over the vast ocean. The entrance
is, open and full of life, it's as if you can see forever.
JOHN
So this is where the Yacht crashed.
HONS
The Captain was friend of yours?
JOHN
He claimed to be.
HONS
(angry)
It is amazing that they came out alive.
Why did you put your faith in them?
John takes the button from the logo of his hat.
From around the inside, there is a scripture, Love is
patient and kind and does not keep a record of wrongs.
Hons exchanges a quick comment, That is what you believe?"
They all look at John as he take Photo's of the wrecked vessel.
On its last Journey it was attacked by Terrorists.
JOHN
No one, I know, has ever had this happen...
John looks at him with disbelief.
Seeing that the Mast had washed a shore...
Hons is quick on his feet, picking up a special box from
the yacht debris and raises it to show John. John realizes what
he has found. A little too late. John's head turns and
he sees another part of Yacht.
John's next move is amazing, graceful and fast, yet
totally unexpected. His right hand slides under the Mast
as he raises it as much as he can. Hons runs to help
him. With the same motion they inch it upward. The
Germans see their struggle and run to help. Finally
it is upright.
The raising of the mast was like the marker of a grave. The
Yacht refused to be buried at sea. They dig a hole to
slide the mast in.
.
John gives a quick short pull as Hons pushes, has it
jerked down, where it involuntarily fell in the hole
in the sand. Hons is amazed, but feels some sort
of relief and immediately raises his hand to give it a
last salute, holding it with his free hand.
John's face goes hard. And sad.
John sweeps his hand across his eyes. Hons,
can see his pain, his Yacht is gone forever.
John gives one more look at his broken Mast and
walks away. Hons follows and slow pace.
John turns slowly to Hons, who is following
Hons raises his hand and pats John on the back.
HONS
I know its nothing! But we did find the box!
John looks, and then nods. He is sad but strong.
Hons' friendship helps the blow. His eyes sweep
the surrounding beach.
JOHN
Let's go. I don't see anything else.
3 EXT. JUNGLE PATH - DAY 3
Hons, carrying a unique box with a beautiful foxglove
carved in the top, walks back to the path with John,
which was across from the natures entrance. The park
interior is wet and vast, with plant life and all
kinds of animal life. Their echoing calls overpower
the sounds of their breathing, whistling birds and
the sound of monkeys give the path a life of its own.
4 EXT. HOTEL 4
John leads the way back to the entrance of the Hotel. Hons'
Cuban cigar gives off a unique smell. John disappears into
the bar of the hotel and when he reappears a moment later
a huge drink is giving him the ability to relax a little
more. John doesn't notice a beautiful woman looking their
way. She is sitting in the Lobby.
Hons sees her and makes a gesture of friendship.
John looks at him, seeing what he's pointing at. John
casually walks over to say hello to the beautiful girl.
Hons follows to get a closer look. John is amazed by her
natural beauty. She is wearing a beautiful antique
necklace that has unique stones making the shape of a
foxglove flower.
John begins picking up a little pocket sized book to
help with the language barrier. He continues to
talk in his half English half Spanish dialogue. He
is quick and bright, evaluating the words in an instant.
She is laughing, stuffing the book back in his pocket,
without stopping his conversation.
5 INT. BAR 5
They walk into the lounge. The exotic girl is beautiful
which interrupts the sadness of the destruction of his Yacht.
She has the most beautiful smile. John enjoys every minute
of their encounter.
HONS
I am going up to the room?
Do you want anything?
John picks up the key and throws it to Hons. As if to
say, I'm fine. Hons walks out toward the front desk.
John and Marie clang their glasses! And begin to talk
as if they had known each other forever, half tired,
half excited, they explore their first kiss. John reaches
into his pocket to get the unusual currency. As the waitress
approaches, John pays the check, so they can leave.
JOHN
Would you like to take a walk.
MARIE
(smiles)
We can't go to far. It is too
dangerous at night.
JOHN
Lets take a walk in the park.
.
John and Marie step outside the safety zone. His hand
holding Marie's for the first time, he moves closer and
and gives her a gentle kiss; she blushes and returns the
kiss. John and Marie get lost in their own world.
6 EXT. PLAZA 6
John and Marie walk up the stairs to a giant plaza, with
fountains and flocks of birds. Framing the entry are
giant pillars with the names of other lovers carved in
stone. John takes his knife and begins to enter their
names.
MARIE
Let me see that.
She tries to draw a Heart around their names. The stone
is old and hard, John takes her hand to give her strength.
The knife barely etches the surface. John retraces the
heart to make it last forever. They kiss again as their
affection keeps driving them closer together.
JOHN
Be careful.
7 EXT. FOUNTAIN 7
Their arms are entwined.
MARIE
John, I think you are so special.
John caresses her hair.
JOHN
Let's go. It is getting dark.
JOHN
It might not be safe.
They begin walking down the steps, side by side. John
has inched a little ahead. Suddenly his lead foot comes
down and in a hole! As John begins to fall forward
Marie grabs him by the hand and pulls him back.
They both laugh.
John swings his arm around her waist. They kiss. Fifty feet
away there are some rough-looking guys, walking toward
the couple in the heat of love. Their illusion is they are
alone. The gang inches closer. Suddenly two of the guys
grab John, as the other two grab Marie. Marie screams.
John looks at Marie. The one guy smashes John's head with
a bottle. He staggers but remains upright; he tries to
find strength and with a backhand hits the other guy and swings
his foot into the attacker. With his other leg he kicks
the dazed one. Marie is taunted by her attackers. John's
adrenaline his driving his every move. He rushes to grab
the attacker from Marie. With a crashing blow to villain's head,
